Markleysburg Union Church was established in 1882. At some point in its history, two separate churches began meeting in the same building. A Baptist church would meet one week and a Churches of God church would meet the next. Each church had a different pastor and each pastor also served in two other churches. Because most people actually attended every Sunday regardless of which church was in charge, the two churches decided to merge. This merger was accomplished in 1976.
